New Math Standards? We've got you!
Elementary Educators, this FREE series is for you! From October 16-November 20, we will host a webinar from 7-7:30pm (recordings available for registered participants) each Wednesday. Debbie Tannenbaum is offering up micro-learning opportunities to meet your needs in implementing the new math standards!
Week 1: Tech-Savvy Strategies: Visualizing Math, Fostering Collaboration, and Multimodal Thinking
● Discover ways that you can create transformative math learning experiences for elementary students by giving them ways to visualize math, use multimodal learning, and then collaboratively interact with their classmates' math thinking. Empower students to engage with their classmates' mathematical thinking through interactive tech tools such as Desmos, Book Creator, Pear Deck .
Week 2: Tech-Savvy Techniques: Deepening Number Sense in Elementary Math
● Dig deep into the new 2023 Virginia Math standards and focus on number and number sense. During this webinar, we will examine this essential strand. We will focus on how the new standards promote flexible counting strategies at the elementary level, look at multiple representations of numbers and the relationships among numbers. Explore digital tools, such as Wixie, Desmos, and Book Creator and see how they can promote deep, flexible understanding of number relationships by better helping our students with visual representations of these concepts.
Week 3: Tech-Savvy Math: Engaging Students in Computation and Estimation
● Discover what is included in the new Virginia Math standards as we explore the stand of computation and estimation. During this webinar, we will discover the updated standards for performing numerical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. As we do this, we will focus on the importance of estimation to determine the reasonableness of an answer and discuss how to apply strategies to solve problems accurately and efficiently. Explore engaging, tech-driven ways using Desmos, Wixie, Book Creator, and Pear Deck to strengthen students' accuracy and efficiency in performing numerical operations
Week 4: Tech-Savvy Measurement: Interactive Tools for Real-World Math
● We encounter measurement and geometry often in our everyday lives and as we delve into these new Virginia Math Standards, we will see how they help our students to develop a spatial understanding of the world around us. We will also focus on how we can apply these skills and concepts in real-world situations. Amplify spatial reasoning and measurement skills using tech tools such as Desmos, Wixie, and Book Creator that bring real-world math to life.
Week 5: From Chance to Data: Tech-Savvy Strategies for Probability and Statistics
● Being able to understand data and analyze data is an essential skill for all of our students. Although the formal study of probability does not begin until Grade 4, our students need to be able to understand how to collect, organize, and interpret data, as well as be able to use data and graphs. Learn to leverage tech tools such as ExploreLearning’s Gizmos and Desmos to enable students to collect, organize, and analyze data, building early foundations in probability.
Week 6: Tech-Savvy Patterns: Exploring Functions and Algebra with Technology
● Recognizing, describing, and analyzing patterns including functions and algebraic concepts helps all of our students to develop both their algebraic thinking and problem-solving skills. This strong foundation helps them to better prepare for the advanced math concepts that they will later encounter in secondary math. Explore tech-based tools such as Desmos, Wixie, and Book Creator that make pattern recognition and algebraic thinking more accessible and engaging for students.
