On October 16, 2023, the Virginia Department of Education released the HB 585 Work Group Report. Our extensive work with assessment and modernizing Virginia’s assessment system is a staple to our advocacy efforts. We recognize and appreciate the hard work of the HB 585 work group and commend its members for preparing a set of recommendations that are largely in line with our findings and recommendations. The purpose of this response is to provide our support for several recommendations and to include areas where the report missed a few opportunities in its approach to modernization.
